Monticone wins 2017 Raj Mittra Travel Grant Award

ECE Assistant Professor Francesco Monticone has won the 2017 Raj Mittra Travel Grant (RMTG) from the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. Monticone will accept the award at a ceremony during the 2017 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation/USNC-URSI National Radio Science Meeting, the largest and most important meeting of the IEEE AP Society. Monticone’s Ph.D. student, Aobo Chen has been selected as a finalist of the student paper competition at the same conference.

The RMTG Committee selects an awardee based primarily upon the candidate's potential or demonstrated aptitude for research. A congratulatory email from Awards Chairman Professor Chi H. Chan stated: “We have received many well-qualified applications, including yours, this year and each received thorough consideration by the award committee. The competition for the RMTG awards this year was exceptionally intense…[and] we would like to congratulate you on your research achievements.”

Monticone’s current research interests are in the areas of applied electromagnetics, metamaterials, plasmonics, nanotechnology, and nanophotonics, with particular focus on innovative and extreme aspects of wave interaction with engineered materials and nanostructures. His recent research work spans a broad range of topics including extreme scattering engineering, cloaking and invisibility, nanoparticles, nanocircuits, nanoantennas, parity-time symmetry, active devices and advanced metasurfaces.
