ECE’s Eilyan Bitar has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor following approval from the Cornell Engineering Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2018.
Bitar joined the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University as an assistant professor in 2012. He is a Faculty Fellow with the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future at Cornell University, which seeks to create vital and resilient future for the global community.
Bitar’s current research examines the operation and economics of future energy systems, with an emphasis on the design of markets and optimization methods to manage uncertainty in renewable and distributed energy resources.
Bitar’s research and teaching have been recognized with several awards including the NSF CAREER Award (2014), as a Faculty Fellow from Cornell University’s Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future (2014), and the David D. Croll Sesquicentennial Faculty Fellowship also from Cornell (2012). He received the John and Janet McMurtry Fellowship (2010), the John G. Maurer Fellowship (2008), and the Robert F. Steidel Jr. Fellowship (2007), all from the University of California, Berkeley.
Prior to joining Cornell, Bitar was engaged as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the department of Computing + Mathematical Science (CMS) at the California Institute of Technology and at the University of California, Berkeley in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science during the 2011-12 academic year. A native Californian, he received both his Ph.D. (2011) and B.S. (2006) from the University of California, Berkeley.
